In change at a store today, I received 3 2003 Missouri clad quarters, all uncirculated. However 1 of the coins had beautiful, dark rainbow toning. I am assuming this came out of a bank roll received by the store, simply because I received 3 of the exact same uncirculated coins. My question is what would cause only 1 coin in the roll to tone like that?
Since its an exposed end, it could have been in contact with some chemical from the box it was stored in or moisture or any combination of the two.
I think more likely it was toned somewhere else, got spent together, (maybe more that three), and three just got happened to get rolled up together. Maybe a coin deposit into a bank.
I don't want to assume its AT, but for a pretty new coin like that to have rainbow toning on both sides would make me suspicious.
I've been trying to take pics, but I can't get the toning to show up in the pictures. I'll keep trying
Thanks, I thought it was real nice looking and in nice condition. I saw it as she was handing it to me, and thought it was a crusty old quarter at first glance.
That's what I was figuring but how would that coin end up back in a role of 2003 Missouri quarters once it was taken out and AT by someone?
