I'm having a real problem with my cardboard 2x2s, some really nice coins are being stapled into these things, and cardboard is getting ontop of the obv and or rev, even when I try to whipe it off with my hand before stapling it shut, I was curious, the air duster that is used for keyboards and such....Do you think that would be an ok solution to blowin away those darned carbboard bunnies? Here is what it shows as chemical components : 1,1,1,2 Tetrafluoroethane I don't want to start using this product till I have some feedback from other collectors...

I would say, use a cotten cloth (I use a clean piece of an old t shirt), or a slightly damp paper towel (and be sure to let the mylar dry). Do not wipe if off with your hands - the oils you leave behind will cause damage.

I used an Air-Duster and its great--I haven't had any bad things happen to my coins--I have heard of some others that use it too...I would go for it.

Whether you clean them or not - the 2x2s will still produce more cardboard dust. It is not advisable to store high grade or valuable coins in 2x2s for it can lead to damage. For your better coins - use a hard case coin holder like Air-Tites.

As for the canned air - use the kind with no alcohol and you should be fine. Also be sure to hold the can totally upright when you spray it. Held at an angle - liquid can & will exit the can and get on whatever your dusting. This is not good.

To add to what GDJMSP said, also make sure you are working in a relatively clean and dust free environment when you use the canned air.

In regards to paper towels or cotton cloth, be careful. Most clothing is not 100% cotton and can and will scratch the surface of a coin. Paper towels are even worse. They may seem soft to the touch, but they are not.

I only wipe down the maylar surface before putting the coins in.
