Today in the mail i recieved a package from cpm9ball. Whe i opened it i was like . Content of the package: 1965 1966 1967 Chris, realy thank you. I love them and they have gotten a special place allready. The idea was to put them in a small showcase i have where the Peace dollar is in. Only problem is that its a small showcase so they did not fit in it together with the peace dollar. So these 3 sets got their own showcase mounted to my wall. (did not have another showcase so i made this one from scratch) Again thank you Chris. These are a real nice addon to my collection. Oh yeah, my first small ebay order came in today to. A 1981 S Lincoln Memorial Proof
I'm glad they arrived safely, Koen. Okay, now for a little practice for you......... Please let Koen answer this! What can you tell me about these coins? Chris
that i like them I know they are specialy made by the US Mint for collectors I can also remember something about them (1965 to 1967) to be used for the transition from silver to clad That i like them
LOL! Yes, 1965-1967 were transition years in the change from silver coinage to clad coinage, but so were 1968-1970. In all of these years, the quarters and dimes were struck in clad, and the half dollar was struck in 40% silver and contained .1479 oz. of pure silver. However, the Special Mint Sets were struck for these years, 1965-1967, because there were no proof sets struck, and the quality of the strike for these coins was higher than normal for a typical Uncirculated Mint Set. Chris
Nice gift! Chris probably had some serious thought into that one. I was going to do the same  But I'll be stocking up on other things to send out then. The Special Mint Sets are of my favorite short series of coin to collect. A little more info: The mint did not produce a mint set or a proof set, but polished dies to make the strike more appealing than a circulation strike but not a proof. All mints had no mintmark on circulated and SMS coinage from 1965-1967 on cent through half. There are instances where they are proof-like and show mirrored fields. There are also instances where the half shows a cameo appearance with frosted devices. This puts a nice premium on these coins. Here is my 1965 SMS Half that I am planning to get graded with a cameo designation:
Caz, thank you And whatever i recieve, i am always happy with it, and hey, even if you send me just a barber or a liberty standing or something like that, ill take it (just kidding )
lol, needed to google that one. Al i reading that good that those are kinde illegal? How can having a coin be illigal?
Chris, very funny. I just wrote an essay about that. Koen, I'll have to buy it back after I send it out
Oh, and if you wanna read it and help me edit it, Chris or Koen, go ahead and PM Me, I'll figure a way to attach it to a message.
if you meen by bolted using 2 thumbtack's, then yes. The case is made of a sort of plexiglas (verry thin and apparently PVC free) I used invissible tape to hold all the ends together and then i put it against the wall with 2 of these: Its just that i needes something to place them in, couldnt leave them jus laying around. I am looking for a better sollution, and i have something in my head, but need to do some research for it first About that research, i read in a topic somewhere that some sorts of wood are not good for coins, but cant find it anymore (that topic) So quick question, what wood wil not affect coins? Its to make some kind of frame to hang to the wall.
Almost all woods give off gases that can be harmful for coins, but I believe that mahogany is the safest. Chris
Chris, I need an A so picky would help And I don't think Balsa is bad for coins either. Don't take my word for granted though.
Well I wonder if a large picture frame with metal edges would work. But personally I don't like to display coins around the house.
