The Mint probably thinks that it will be as big of a success as the Buffalo Commems, but at $875 I won't be buying it.

I plan to purchase the UNCs. I checked with a company that sells bullion for the mint and they said they expect the coins to get shipped in late July. I wonder what effect these coins will have on the price of the silver dollar buffalo commemoratives.

Pretty sad that the USA has to dig way into the past for coin designs, as though there is now no originality of design. Otherwise you end up with an AGE'esque design with that ridiculous family of eagles reverse and a waif like personification of Liberty on the obverse.

The symbols of the eagle and liberty are rather near and dear to the hearts of Americans, as is the buffalo.

I won't be buying the coin. It seems overpriced compared to 100+ year old uncirculated $20 liberty gold coins -- with the eagle on the reverse.

I would rather have the Saint design myself, but I also like the Libs from the 19th century, esp. those early ones with mintmarks.

I plan on purchasing at least one of each, as they are part of a complete set.

Think of it as just a tank full of gasoline, and it won't hurt so much!

Am I correct in assuming the mint will only be selling the Proof directly and the Uncirculated will have to be purchased from 3rd party vendors?

    Thanks

Yes, the bullion have to be purchased from Authorized Dealers.

I just noticed that the article says 300,000 limit. I was thinking originally it was 30,000.
What is the mint thinking coining 300,000 coins that sell for $875?

What do you mean by complete set?

    I'm definitely buying the unc.

I have had good luck with California Numismatic Investment. I agree that the St. Gaudens design pehaps should not have been replicated on the AGE. However, I think it is a beautiful coin and I expect the Buffalo coin will be as well. Obviously people liked the silver dollar coin. I would favor the elimination of the paper currency (dollar bill) and the creation of a series of dollar coins with new designs. I think that is the only way dollar coins will be accepted in this country.

    it's too late

it's too late. the price moved up already. i won't buy any of the gold coins. the only one i would like to have it. that is the penny from 2009 to 2012. others such as presidential dollars and wife series. it is a dead series.

When this new bullion coin was originally being touted, I had the impression that this was basically going to replace the AGE, with prices like that, and such minimalist approaches of mintages, perhaps this piece will only be for those fools willing to fork out egregious sums of cash for such impractically prohibitive nonsense.

It is a nice design, but then so was the Buffalo Nickel, and then the Buffalo Dollar. I guess theoretically it is possible to spend $51.05 and spend a gold, a silver, and a copper nickel coin with the same design. Got to give it to the USM for originality.

Next thing the feminists will want the SBA Dollar resurrected and struck as a $25 coin in gold.

Sorry about that shatsi, I should have explained what I referred to when I said "complete" sets.

I have all the silver and gold coins minted by the U.S. Mint , starting in 1986 for the silver and 1987 for the gold. Circulated and proof in each metal. This includes the 1995 W proof silver eagle which came along with the three sets of gold coins that I purchased that year. So this Buffalo issue is just one more of the series that will make up the set.

So basicly I'm talking about the bullion coins. Any questions now?:thumb:

yeah, is it true that a Wendy's Frosty is a soquid instead of a liquid or a solid?

nope, those things aren't soquid's, I know because squid is very chewy and those frosty malts are definately NOT chewy. Plus they are much better than squid too!
