From Vulcan, Alberta, Canada: Here's a couple commemorating Space achievements: The reverse is the same on all three:
Very interesting promotion, do you know how well it was accepted, if at all? If they are not 1 ounce silver bars, how big are they ? Thanks for sharing
They're just brass or something like that. These kinds of things were popular in the 70s, 80s and 90s in small communities to raise funds for special events and celebrations. Most were accepted at face value for a limited time. At shows most of them are sold at face value or less depending on their popularity. I've seen these particular ones (Vulcan) sell on ebay for as high as $25 to Star Trek collectors. They're about 1" x 2".
How cool is Vulcan Alberta? The town must have spent their entire promotional budget on hooking a ride on the "Starship Enterprise" Look em up on Google maps and see the local pictures. When I complete my collection overhaul, I must remember to "explore" these items. :high5:
Thanks for posting the pieces The Apollo 11 piece only lists the two astronauts. The mission required Michael Collins in the command module Columbia. I like the item but Collins deserves equal billing.
