Hallo, my friends. I want to share with you my collection of Israeli coins. I have started this collection about 10 years ago and now I have rather interesting numismatic stuff from that country. First of all, I must to tell about the Israeli monetary system. When Israel became the independent country (at May 14 1948) the First government has decided to make an own Israeli currency. So, at April 6 1949 a new coins with the face value of 25 mils were released (but it were a coins with the date "1948" and with the date "1949" on reverse). The mintage of a first Israeli coins was not very numerous - 693000 pcs only. At the same year (1949) Israeli government has released the new types of coins - Lirah. So lirah became the new national currency. 1 lirah = 1000 prutah. This monetary system has existed until January 1 1958.
At January 1 1958 Israeli monetary system was changed. Since that time lirah was equal to 100 agorot. Allof pruutah-coins were annuled. The new Israeli monetary system has existed until 1980.
At February 24 1980 Israeli monetary system was changed. Since that day sheqel became a national currency. One sheqel = 100 new agorot.
