Hello everyone, I have had these coins for some time now and I'd like to give them a good home. They're currently just sitting in my valuables box and not being displayed properly, so I would like to sell them to someone who would appreciate and cherish them. The only problem is, I can't identify 6 of the 8 coins I have (the only 2 I have identified have English on the coin). I unfortunately cannot read Chinese and I have only been able to identify the symbol for the word coin and a couple of mint marks. If anyone can give me a valuation of my small collection, as well as helping with identifying the correct denominations and dynasties, it would be a great help. I've been on several identification sites and the Chinese markings are starting to make me dizzy. The coins are in rough shape, but I've seen worse. I don't collect world coins so they are really out of place and I'd like to be a little more knowledgeable when I try to give them a new home. Thank you very much for any time you contribute to helping me through this quandary. JP Coin #1 Coin #2 / I'll make a couple more posts to get all of the pictures in the thread.
These are the coins I have identified, would just like a valuation. I'm sorry if I have this in the wrong forum, I just thought I would reach the correct audience here. Coins #7 & #8
I can help with the first 6 coins - I collect cast coins - but not the final two struck coins. There are several varieties of most Qing cast coins, so without diameter and weight, exact identification is impossible. Your coins are all common 1 cash, of rather low grade, and worth perhaps $1-2 each. Coin 1 - Kang Xi Tong Bao, Board of Revenue Beijing Mint, cast between 1662 and 1701 (?) Coin 2 - Guang Xu Tong Bao (machine struck) Guangdong Mint, 1890-95 or 1895-99 depending on weight Coin 3 - Jia Qing Tong Bao, Board of Revenue Mint Beijing (North Branch) cast between 1796 and 1820 Coin 4 - Qian Long Tong Bao, unknown mint. The Qian Long Emperor ruled 1736-95 Coin 5 - Dao Guang Tong Bao, Dongchuan Yunnan Mint, cast 1826-46 (?) Coin 6 - Guang Xu Tong Bao, Fuzhou Fujian Mint, cast 1887-90 (?) Hope this helps
Thank you so much ls8driver. I'm glad to see that these are genuine and not copies or anything like that. I can post the diameters and weights if that will help identify them further. Since they are only worth a few dollars a piece, I think I may free up a page in my coin folder and properly label these coins and keep them in my collection. I don't have anything in my collection anywhere near this old and I would hate to sell coins like these for $6 - $12 that have already been paid for by the foreign silver I found in the collection. I'll measure these babies up and weigh them tomorrow sometime and post the specs. Thanks again for the enormous amount of time you've saved me and the great help you've provided to me. JP
