1943 copper cent?? Ys, no , mabye so????

Hi all, I need some opinions/suggestions here.......


The coin does not stick to a magnet, as well as it does not appear to have been altered & the weight of the coin is 3.058 grams

The "3" in the date looks altered to me. Look at the image below. The top is your coin. If you notice, the bottom curve of the "3" is different than on the authentic steel 1943 cent.

I agree on the idea that the 3 is not right. Maybe there was grease on the die, maybe it was hit, maybe it was altered. It looks altered to me though.

 

We're not really getting anywhere, but for what it's worth, I, too, agree that it was altered. The three looks way too suspicious.

 

I will try to take a close up picture of the 3 & the date but my camera is not all that great I only have a 7 megapixel fuji, but will do best I can

I'm not so sure anymore... Where did you find this coin?

BTW, I really dont know much about these coins, except for what little knowledge I have read and can recollect. But I do know that some some fakes have been made with fake dies made from steel cents... So even if it appears real in the photo, it could still be a counterfeit.

I found this coin, along with a few other coins about 5 years ago in an abandoned house that still had it's entire contents but was scheduled to be demolished by the town, the house had been vacant since 1999 & was demolished in 2007

 

along with this coin I found a real worn beat up 1793-1796 flowing hair large cent (to this day I do not know what the date of it was), 1925 bust quarter, a hand full of seated dimes, a couple of 3 cent silvers, a roll & a half of mercury dimes, half of a roll liberty V nickels, 3 common date Morgans & a small wooden box about 5"w x 5"d x 5"h filled with wheat cents & that is where I found this coin in the wood box. all the other coins are long gone I actually just came across it I had just put the wood box aside & forgot about it til now.

 

I cannot prove it, but I would say it has not been altered, but rather minted in China. Here is my version. Look at the hair (lack of detain), the wheat (rounded tip on the right) and the double rim. None of these are present on any other steels I have.

Take it to your nearest dealer. However, there are so many little things just not right, don't get your hopes up.

Yep, this coin looks like it came straight from the Big Tree Coin Factory, Fujian Province, China.

 

I agree with rlm and jloring, fake all the way.

 

The coin itself is so rare that the chances of it being real are extremely low, almost at 0%.

 

I'm no pro, and this is not to contradict any of the previous
posts, and despite the infinitesimal odds, I think it might be
worth the money to have this coin looked at by a TPG.
