Allow me to pick your brains. I sold an item on eBay the other night and the buyer paid with a PayPal eCheck. The buyer seems OK and had emailed me soon after the auction ended to tell me he was having a problem with his bank card, which I believed. At any rate, today I got an eCheck from him. PayPal said it won't clear till next week and not to ship until it does. I don't mind waiting but wonder how safe it is to accept an eCheck in payment instead of straight PayPal? TIA:greensmile:
I know my paypal account is setup in a way that if I spend over a certain amount it automatically defers to an echeck. If I am not paying attention ill send the echeck and forget to switch it back to paypal direct from my bank account. So far its happened twice to me, but I see no difference in the way paypal pays it out except the time delay, it comes out of the same account of mine everytime. They are correct though, you should wait until payment clears before you ship, remember there are bad people out there that love to take advantage of the ignorant.
maybe he paid from his phone last time I paid for an item from my android app and it didn't give another option only echeck it takes longer to clear and your item to ship
It is as safe as regular instant transfer. eCheck funds come from bank account in a few days, while normal transfer is from account balance or credit card, so the funds transferred immediately.
