I was filling some holes in my quarter folder and needed a 1976 40% silver BU. I already had the 40% silver proof. I puchased one that I thought was what I wanted but when I got home and looked at it next to the proof version it looks almost the same. Not quite as mirror like, but almost. Is there a way to tell if this is actually a proof coin or just proof-like? I'll post pics later if needed.
Ok, I scanned the coins and now I'm going to claim temporary blindness or something. With the blow up, on screen, scanned images the difference became obvious to me and now its pretty obvious just looking at them. Anyway, here are the pics. I swear that BU looked much more mirrored earlier . Looks like my scanner bed needs a wipedown too. The coins dont have all those spots on them... Anybody have advise for getting better scans without the color bloom and spots? What do you clean your scan bed with?
