    I have a 1934, Portuguese India Coin.
1 Tanga Copper coin with Print error as 4 tanga instead of 1 tanga.

Can anybody help/comment - can such error coin exist and if yes what may be its worth.

    Friends your assesment please.

The 1934 4 Tanga and 1934 1 Tanga looked exactly the same except for one saying 4 and the other saying 1.

The 1 Tanga was made in bronze and the 4 Tanga was made in copper-nickel.

So I am pretty sure you have a 4 Tanga coin, not an error.

Actually I have a complete set of coin

    1 Rupia - 1935 ( Uncirculated )
    1/2 Rupia - 1936 ( Uncirculated )
    4 Tangas - 1934
    2 Tangas - 1934
    1 Tanga - 1934

As GreatWalrus has mentioned, I do not see much difference between 4 Tanga and 1 Tanga coin ( both are of same size ) with subtle differences :
4 Tanga is of copper-Nickel ( so look more silvery ) - 1 Tanga Copper coin.
4 Tanga has a mention of " 4 tangas" while the 1 Tanga Coin has mention " 4 tanga " there is no tangas here. ( so the error is only in stamping 4 instead of 1 ).

Other than above the print and markings are similar.

I will be uploading images of both 4 Tanga and 1 Tanga coin.

I am located in Goa - India and it was a Portuguese colony and these coins were in circulation during the colonial times.

It is quite intersting that I found this coin and i have confirmed with local experts they do say it is a very rare occurance surely.

The pictures are blurry, but I think it may be a bad attempt at doctoring the coin.

I agree absent closer pics on the 4. I believe you will find looking at the relief on the numeral telling. If it was doctored, the added part of the 4 will be field level, and they carved the field down to show the 4 in relief. Either that or they added the 4, but the most likely is carving the field down if simply done for contemporary counterfeit purposes, and not numismatic purposes.

Thank you all for a good feedback.

1 Tanga coin and 4 Tanga coin comparison , I find that the 4 Letter is sligltly elavated in 1 Tanga.
I am think that 1 Tanga has been changed to 4 numeral by someone , whether that was due to shortfall or doctored is unknown now.
a local expert also opines the same
