I bought off ebay last week for $4 (Including S&H) a $2 Red Seal Silver Certificate from 1953 and the guy sent me two! I paid face value, one is in decent condition the other seriously only has three folds in it and is still crisp! Pictures soon
Great deal, i got about 0 chance getting something this cheap, since i got to pay international shipping... but i`ve done pretty good myself a few months ago, when i got 5 different notes for $10 in total. There were 3 notes that are worth $8 together, and there was also a 1953 $2 Red Seal Silver Certificate in excellent condition. It seems like 1953 $2s are going cheap lately on eBay, not sure why.
maybe because they aren't really worth holding onto ? I sold over 100 of them recently, was glad to get $2.50 a note. I got them at bank this year. Somebody has been holding them for decades with no real increase in value.
This truly makes sense, maybe he has given up on hoarding them Mind you I love them for the color, and 20-60 years from now when I die maybe my kids will get the same enjoyment I did or be able to sell them for $3 a peice (Mind you inflation so they might be able to buy one candy bar with the both of them)
Congrats! I won an auction earlier this week where I paid $10 for $8 in bills & coins. Several of the coins were silver, so I was thrilled. Sadly, about 2 minutes later, the seller refunded my money and upped the price to $100! It was fun while it lasted though. Glad your story has a happier ending!
Ha.. I didn't realize it was an old post when I commented on it. It showed up on the front page when I logged in, so I just assumed that it was a recent one.
I would think he has to honor the initial sale right? Also tlasch did the seller send you a second one on purpose or was it a mistake? Did you contact him to let him know he sent you two?
If it was a BIN listing the seller could say that he listed the auction in error (forgot to put an extra 0 to make it $100) which was probably true if the lot included $8 face value in notes and silver coins. These mistakes happen all the time. If a seller accidentally puts a BIN price of $7 instead of $700 for an authentic 1877 IHC cent and someone buys it for $7 can anyone really blame the seller in not going through with the sale?
Only the OP can say what kind of auction it was... Even if you win a BIN auction it is still considered to be an auction by most users within the ebay community, atleast that has been my experience.
