Is there some sort of a program for ebay that automaticly monitors biddings and outbid people? I am bidding on a peace dollar, and every time i place a bid there is automaticly the message i am overbid. Always from the same person on the same time i place my bid and always with only $0.50 or $1 more than my bid. So anoying... I think the one overbidding me is using some program for it, and if so is that legal?
When you bid on ebay you set your max bid, say the auction is at $10, a person can max bid to $50, but it will only show $10, if you bid $20, he'll automatically still have the highest bid, because he bid UP TO $50, hope this makes since.
eBay uses proxy bidding. That is what you are seeing. Another bidder has made a proxy bid that is higher than the bids that you have made. Whenever you make a bid your the other bidder's actual bid is increased incrementally above your bid. This will continue until you bid an amount higher than the other bidder's proxy bid. You can read more about eBay's proxy bidding here - http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/automatic-bidding.html .
Sure is, quite a few of them even. They are called sniping programs. What they do is wait until the last second or last few seconds before an auction ends and then they place your bid. Problem is thousands of people use these programs. So you have snipers out-sniping each other. But what you are describing is nothing more than ebay's own software. It's the max bid system. Say you want a coin and the current bid is $75. You expect the coin to sell for around $150, but to you it's worth $165. So you place your max bid of $165. What ebay's software does right then is increase the current bid by the next bid increment, say $5. So the current bid goes up to $80. A few minutes later somebody else bids $90. But your max bid is still higher so the ebay software increases the bid to $95 - automatically, without you doing anything. That will keep happening until nobody outbids you.
you both where talking chinese for me, but hobo's link helped alot So thx for the info. gues the best is that i will go search another peace dollar
I was talking about 2 different things koen. Your question sounded like you were asking about a program that bidders on ebay could use to win at the last second. But what you described as happening was nothing more than ebay's own software.
i look affordable peace dollars, but they must be slabbed (preferably by PCGS) and not from the year 1923 (i have that one allready) I understand what you are saying about ebay's own software, but i cant find how to use it myself. So lets say i find an item i would like, then i make a bid, but i cant seem too see the stuff to autobid when the bids are higher tnah mine
Give me examples with numbers koen. I think what is happening is that you just aren't bidding high enough. Say your max bid is $65. But somebody else has a max bid of $120. You're never gonna win because their max bid is higher than yours.
Hello Koen, When you bid during an Ebay auction you are giving other bidders the opportunity to see your bid & outbid you. Some of those competitive bidders may wait until the last few seconds in an auction & then place their max bid to beat you. You do not need to place & advertise your bid early in an Ebay auction. You can use a bid sniping program to automatically place your maximum bid in the final nano-second of the auction. Many of us use a sniping program. I recommend bidnapper.com only because I use it. There may be better sniping programs out there. Basically, I paid Bidnapper a small fee & they gave me the ability to place several snipes. What I do is first copy the item number from Ebay. Then I log onto Bidnapper & paste the item number. Bidnapper then asks for my maximum bid. That is all there is to it. My bid is placed automatically by Bidnapper at the last possible moment. Providing nobody has placed a higher bid to Ebay, then the coin is mine. If someone else had a higher maximum bid on the coin, then it would sell to them at 1 bid increment higher than my snipe.
so in the bidding screen i put in my max ammount i want to spend, and then it wont show that ammount, but take a smaller one, and when somebody bids and my max bid is higher then i overbiod them automaticly?
Correct. Another example: You see a 1921 Peace Dollar just put up for auction, starting at $0.99 with 0 bids. You are willing to pay up to $100 for it, so you place a Max Bid of $100. The new current bid will be the $0.99 amount, with you as high bidder. OtherBidder1 comes along and thinks he's going to try to get it for $5, so he places a Max Bid of $5. The result will be a new bid of $5.01, with you as the high bidder and OtherBidder1 having been automatically outbid. Next comes OtherBidder2 who really wants this coin and places a Max Bid of $500. The result will be a new bid of $101 with OtherBidder2 being the high bidder and you've been automatically outbid. While people keep bidding anything below $500, the bid will automatically increment and OtherBidder2 will remain the high bidder (he really wanted that coin). 1. $0.99 0 bids 2. $0.99 1 bid, you are highest bidder 3. $5.01 2 bids, you are highest bidder (OtherBidder1 automatically outbid to next highest increment) 4. $101.00 3 bids, OtherBidder2 is highest bidder (you have been automatically outbid to the next highest increment) 5. ... anything below $500 and OtherBidder2 remains the winning bidder but the price keeps increasing with each bid.
Exactly! Unless they bid above your Max, then you have to put in another max bid. I'm doing the same. I'm hunting down ms64 PCGS dollars. Finding them around $70 at the moment. If need be send me a pm with details of what you're looking for and I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
oke, so to be absolutely sure about what i am doing (sotty to bother you guys with this) Somebody ads a new item. The strating price is $0.99 Maximum i want to give to it is $100 In the field shown in the picture i put 100 to place my bid Ebay will automaticly say that the $0.99 is my starting bid, nobody sees it is $100 When someone bids $2 then ebay wil know my max bid was $100 and it will automaticly increase my bid according to the inrcrements So if the highet bid somebody else does is $50 then i will be the highest bidder with lets say $51 and not the $100 i placed in the beginning. Is this correct Man, ebay is not easy when you never realy used it before (exept for some buy now stuff )
that one looks like it is free for only 15 days. here is the one i use to use. works pretty well for a free website http://www.goofbay.com/
Its ok, we're here to help. Yes koen that's exactly correct. It'll keep incrementally increasing your bid until it reaches your $100 mark. Then if someone bids higher than $100 then you'll have to put in a new max bid.
While your concept is correct your bid increments are way off. Below are the actual bid increments from http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-increments.html
Current Price Bid Increment $ 0.01 - $ 0.99 $ 0.05 $ 1.00 - $ 4.99 $ 0.25 $ 5.00 - $ 24.99 $ 0.50 $ 25.00 - $ 99.99 $ 1.00 $ 100.00 - $ 249.99 $ 2.50 $ 250.00 - $ 499.99 $ 5.00 $ 500.00 - $ 999.99 $ 10.00 $ 1000.00 - $ 2499.99 $ 25.00 $ 2500.00 - $ 4999.99 $ 50.00 $ 5000.00 and up $ 100.00
it seems like i understand it now. just did a bid on something and it looks like its working. (and now lets hope that i win )
Just a heads up while using sniping tools don't set your max bid too high. I have taken a few snipers to the cleaners
