1903 (Year of the Meiji 36) Japan 50 sen coin

I had the coin inspected by some of folks who run this coin shop: http://www.cdncoin.com/

Obviously, the specialty is Canadian currency but the two individuals who inspected my coin have some experience with world coins. They both felt the coin was truly genuine after looking it over and weighing it (they possessed no coin calipers). I would've gotten exact information however I was kept waiting quite a long time and content with the free evaluation.

I have no plans to buy a caliper or gauge nor do I plan to buy a more accurate scale (although it is more likely of two) at the moment. I've spoken with a couple people via PM and I am still open to the idea to have someone else check the coin more accurately, sent via mail at my cost. Otherwise, I think that about does it for now.

I think what we are looking at is a variety of an original coin. I don't think it is a counterfeit. JMO
