Don't really need a coin book for that if you are looking for the years and mintage of current coinage.

Here's a good link to start off with http://www.lioncoins.com/nippon.htm

If you still want to buy a catalog and would like reference to Meiji era coinage, try JNDA catalog. Shouldn't be too expensive - around 30-40 dollars ish.

Thank you i appreciate it, i just wanted a book to keep my prices in and to easily look up the amount of precious metal in each coin without going on my computer.

The JNDA Catalog is less than $20 online, and covers coins from the earliest known varieties to the current issues. However, most of the information is in Japanese, but copious illustrations, values (in Japanese Yen) and dates are easy to understand.

For pre-Meiji coins, the new Hartill book is an excellent reference.

Google Scott Seamans who sells both books (and many others) at good prices.
