what time of year are the new circulated coins released to the public? i though i read some where in may or april but of course i can't find that article again. just wondering so i know to set aside money to go buy some boxes of pretty pennies lol
it just depends on your local banks. thet put in orders as more rolls are needed of whatever coins they need. the coins are minted/being minted now. just keep asking at the banks.
It's pretty much based on supply and demand. Some years I've started getting the new coins by the third week in February. But, in recent years it has been considerably later. With the use of credit cards (no change being given out), and so many people turning in old change, it could be May in some areas of the country. It always helps to have a friend in the business, either banking or retail. This can reduce the wait by sometimes months.
It varies state fro state. I'm still pulling half cases of brand new 2011 cents at the bank. It can be a crapshoot these days.
New coins are minted and released as soon as the Federal Reserve System Orders them. If the Feds do not order any then they aren't minted. The Federal Reserve receives the orders and then distributes them to the Federal Reserve Banks that order them. These are released to the member banks as those banks order them. If current supplies meet or exceed current orders, then no new coins end up in the system. some years its early and some years it late and for some years, it just never happens.
