Here is a coin I am considering, but it is in a less than perfect slab so I'm looking for grade opinions. Thanks for your thoughts! TCT
Sometimes IMHO a photo can be too large to grade---But here is my guess. The carbon spots on the back do take away from the look---- I think I see some ware on the tops of the hair---if that is wear AU58.....BUT if that is just from the photo MS61 Speedy
Man, I would love this coin to be an MS-63RB, but I see the same thing as everyone else and am going to go AU-58-unfortunately.
Who slabbed it? I can't tell if the light on the high points on the obv are wear of if it is just reflected light. however, from what I can see the coin looks diagnostically correct and I can see a beautiful bowl shape radiating in from the edges of the coin (one of my favorite parts of a coin is the depth of relief). Provided the high points just are reflecting light, I am concerned about the black specks on the reverse. I would say MS-62. If the high points are wear AU-58.
Another nice coin.Nice color and detail. A few marks / specks on the reverse but I'll say it has AU58 with MS60/62 potential.
It is in a new ANACS 64 Brown clearview holder. It seems no one thinks it is that nice though. Not a good statement for the new ANACS coins.
My first gut said 63RB, but when I read the other previous posts I had to use my other gut and go the 58. I think it's a great coin and wouldn't mind having it in my collection. An improvement on my F-15/VF-20.
I've been saying that it seems with this move that ANACS has done they have started to overgrade.....IMHO the carbon spots themselves kill it from the 63 grade. BTW--That S doesn't look like it is in the right place....look at it and look at this one... Since that must not be ware on the tips of the hair then I will go MS but not 63. Speedy
The S is ok speedy, there are 4 obverse dies used to make them and each one of them has the MM in a different location. the coin i listed has one of the 4 correct MM positions.
What about the die chip on top of the mint mark ? It's not something I recall seeing before, 'course that doesn't mean much. As for grade, I can't say I see any wear, but given the condition of the left wreath and the carbon spots and the fact that it's not well centered, I wouldn't give it a 64 either.
well it sold for just over $1500 which is low 64BN money, but I'm glad I didn't get it. I'm willing to spend a little more if it is a nicer than average 64.
