Just picked up the 2005 RED BOOK. The 58th edition.

Wow! Look at the prices of some of the coins from the 2004 edition to 2005. What a jump!

Key date Lincolns went up by 15 to 20% (at least). More if you are talking about MS60 or better.

Lincoln Proofs from 1970 to present have taken off. For instance, a 1991S PR65 Lincoln was $18 last year and now the same coin in the 2005 book is $25!

SAC PR65 dollars for 2001 and 2002 also jumped as well.

I only collect Lincolns and modern dollars...but holy smoke, look at the coin market.

Just a piece of friendly advice Ed - you would be better off to look at the coin market anyplace but the Red Book ;)

How did the Jeff's do? Seeing as there was a design change the market probab. went up there as well.

Probably true -- but it's always interesting to look at a trend over the course of many years. While I'd never use the Red Book to determine the "current market value" of a coin, over many years it does give a pretty good indication of the general long-term trend.

Still, I know what he means about the values. My keys and semi-keys in my Indian and Lincoln collection (up to 1933) have skyrocketed -- many of them doubling in value *or more* in the last couple years, at least in the XF-AU range.

Here in the Colonies, publishers and manufacturers of goods with "model years" believe that new year is somewhere between June 1 and September 15.[IMG] The 2005 Standard Catalog was recently published, new Red and Blue books are out, and some of the 2005 automobiles are already being manufactured.
