A little bit of glue residue that's barely visible to the naked eye can do wonders for toning on a coin... it just disappears with the acetone treatment... have you ever treated a coin with acetone before?

No I have not tried it before. Acetone is finger nail polish remover right?

Is acetone acceptable for any coin or just no value coins?

Used properly, it's fine for any coin. It is NOT fingernail polish remover... acetone is the primary ingredient in that, but that crap has other stuff in it too. Go to a hardware store and ask for pure acetone... it'll come in a metal can. Not really expensive. Get a glass or ceramic jar (Acetone will melt plastic, no joke) and pour some in there... drop in a coin you want to let soak in there, almost anything should be fine in it save for copper, which can turn slightly pinkish when soaked in acetone. Cover it, acetone is easily evaporated if not covered, and if it all evaporates, all that crap you just removed from the coin will be deposited right back on it. You can soak it as long as you want, I typically give most coins an hour or so, but I have left them in there for two or three days (change the acetone every 6 hours or so) to get all the crud off. When you're ready to pull the coin out, you can use your fingers if you want, acetone is non-toxic. Drop the coin onto a couple paper towels, quickly pat each side down (don't rub, just a little pat dry should be fine) and you're done. If it still won't come off, I'll grab a toothpick and poke at it very gently until it comes off. Usually does the trick. Some people suggest rinsing in distilled water once it comes out of the acetone bath, I personally don't see the benefit in that given how fast the acetone evaporates off the coin... the pat dry isn't really necessary because of that, but I don't like the way acetone feels when it evaporates from my skin, haha.

Box of Halves - Skunk....2nd in a row.

Before getting my halves a lady is cashing in a bunch of rolled change. So, I asked if I could get it.

    $20 in Quarters - Skunk
    $25 in Dimes - 1 x 1949 and 1 x 1964 Roosie
    $10 in Nickels - Skunk

At least the CWR's saved the day!

Long day today...I think I hit up about 20 different banks. No luck with loose halves at all, and I can never find CWR. But 1 Chase branch I stopped by had 4 boxes and $100 leftover from a box. Got it all, and only managed 2 40%ers.

2 Boxes of Dimes yielded 4 Rosies and a cool looking '66 Aussie Penny (that's a first for me).
    3 loose Ikes, all clad

I've been away from the game for about 2 months now with work, holidays and other stuff. I was up in Massachusetts for work and decided to pull up to a few banks. I ended up finding 130 in rolled halves at two banks and ended up finding 15-40s. Was a great way to get back in it; I'll probably start ordering a few boxes every week again now that things have settled down.

Some of you have had some great finds after going back through the thread - congrats.

I went through 8 boxes of halves last week and got 9 40%'s + 1 FAKE 1946 'S' Walker. The Walker weighed 9.2 grams and is non-magnetic, I'll post a pic of it tomorrow.

Just finishing up going thru 10 dollars in cents. All CWR. All but one roll were evidently put away approx 1981, as that is the last date in all, and many of them were uncirculated (although having some evidence of handling, with oils, etc.), with most of the uncirculated ones being 1978-1980. Some from 1973-77 too. Had a few from the 60s, and 2 from 1959, but those were slightly worn (about F to VG, and consistent with being in circulation for about 10-15 years. Interesting. I feel like I went back in time 30 years.

I can't find Brink's boxes anywhere anymore. Every bank I"ve gotten boxes from keep giving me String N Sons boxes. Anybody else noticing this? I'm in the Midwest just outside Chicago area.

I've gotten boxes from BOAs, Chase, TCF.

Maybe I need to find some other banks and see what they are getting. The only reason I ask is because I've had better luck with Brinks boxes in the past.
