I saw some people talking about these nickels....and was curious.

    1. 1944 no P......Why did people counterfeit a nickel? Did they scrape the P off?

    2. What is a Hennig nickel?

This is a major part of why I collect coins. Its not simply for the beauty of the coins themselves, but the stories and history that goes along with them. Thanks to all in the forum who share their wealth of knowledge to those of us who are just learning.

    Doesn't surprise me at all.

There are still some older coins to be found in pocket change, especially when it comes to nickels. Coins dating back to the 40's aren't too hard to find.

Collecting from circulation is how I got started in the hobby. It's still one of my favorite things to do.

Some of us collect pocket change, some metal detect, some of us collect modern mint products, some collect classic coins, World coins, Exonumia, paper money, publications, etc., etc.

Heck, there's even one guy here that collects 16th century hammered gold. ;)

ha ha... nice i was supprised i found any because i hardly look at pocket change... for awhile now i have been doing basicaly morgan and walking liberty and buffalo mints the buffalo and walking both being mainly proof I do have 5 1889 proof morgans... well 10... 5 being pure 1 oz .999 silver the other 5 are just silver coated... but until recently have i started looking at pocket change and have started getting an intrest in nickels and the new state quarters... I also collect paper money I have a couple war bonds from the civil war both confederate one from arkansas and the other from alabama... along with the silver dollars and the silver 5 dollars and the 2 dollars etc.. I would deffently like to get into world coinage preferably ancient coinage from roman/greek era... of course ive known these to be expensive so it will be awhile :D ... somewere around here i should have a couple of world fair tokens from seattle world fair... gotta look in a couple of designated spots i believe there located tomorrow.. untill then let this thread get back on track :)
