Black Penny

    Recieved this coin in change from a store. It is larger than a reg. penny, not magnetic , heavier than a tin coin from days gone by. searched a bit on line and found nothing on it ... Any one have an Idea of its origin? bp1.jpg bp2.jpg bp3.jpg bp4.jpg

    Looks like it's almost been spray painted. I don't see anything special here though.

    Thank you for your reply but deffinatly not paint... Do not know if you can see in the bottom pic. the silvery color on the rim from about the six thirty to the seven thirty area of the coin , it is bigger than a reg. penny in the top pic. it is under a reg. penny, but slightly smaller than a nickel

    It was likely dipped in something to create this color or something else caused it to tarnish to this black color. I've seen weirder things with pennies. This is nothing special and if you think it's some sort of error from the mint, it's not.

    Right on ... Thanx for the info .. Ill put it with the black and brown quarters I have that are also only worth face value.
