I had some junk silver I wanted to dump and get something nice with. I got tired of not finding any good us coins for my monthly coin budget, and I though hmm, an almost 1,800 year silver coin for $80? I can't go wrong there! Any idea of the value, NGC does not report, and I can't really find an online price. Value is not important just wanted to know. http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/CertResults.aspx?CertNumber=2401589-051 Edit. One in VF realized $100 on teletrade. Others are asking $90-$115 for XF. so I did not get burnt.
Why? It's a nice holder with a good little factoid at the top. You would be nuts to crack that out and put it in a 2x2 or a snaplock.
Its not common to slab them but I think its good idea and may buy on at Long Beach this weekend if I find the right one.
You can find some fantastic ancients for under $20. There are some collectors that I know that will not spend more than $20 on any ancient and they've got a great collection. Not all are silver but still very beautiful.
Post a coin here before you buy to check it out. Or check out vcoins.com . or forumancientcoins.com they have an under $40 section
The 4 ancient coins in this previous CT thread only cost about $20 (for all of them). http://www.cointalk.com/t199193/ They are quite rich with history and quite nice to look at IMHO.
I like my ancients in 2X2 envelopes. Look around at he auction sites like Forvm, Classical coins, CNG coins, Vcoins, you will be able to find some good prices on coins and also check out MA coins its like Vcoins but with much more variety and most of the coin stores are from europe with a nice sellection of ancients in every price range.
