Which idea is better to lobby for? Redesigned $2 bills or a U.S. bimetallic $2 coin?

Okay, I know I should have asked this sooner, but, as you all may know, Canada currently has sucessful $1 and $2 coins, and the push to eliminate the U.S. $1 bill seems to be getting stronger (see my earlier posts)

So the big question is, should I lobby for redesigned $2 bills, or new U.S. $2 coins similiar to Canada's $2 coin?

The pros of the U.S. $2 coin is that it would last longer than a $2 bill. And you would have to carry less $1 coins.

The cons are that, without the elimination of the cent, there would be no space for the $2 coin in most standard five slot cash drawers. And you would have to carry more than one larger denomination coin. And it would likely be harder to retool vending machines to accept and dispense $2 coins as needed.

The pros of the redesigned $2 bill is that there is a space for them in most standard five slot cash drawers, and they are lighter than $2 coins. And vending machine bill acceptors could be reprogrammed easier to take new $2 bills than they can for new $2 coins.

The cons are that the $2 bills will likely wear out just as fast as the current $1 bill, if the public embraced them, almost cutting the government savings from eliminating the $1 bill and replacing it with a coin, in half.

So, which would be better? Redesigned $2 bills, or new bimetallic U.S. $2 coins?

IMO let's do it one step at a time.
Get the public used to $1 coins.
If they don't want the $1 coin there's no way they'll want the $2 coin.
Kill the $1 bill and wait until the rioting stops and the $1 coin comes into common use.
I believe releasing the $2 at the same time will make that transition easier.
And use the old design for the time being since I suspect there's boatloads of $2 bills moldering away in the Federal Reserve Banks.

THEN after the dust settles work on replacing the $2 bills with $2 coins.
