Help me not get robbed (literally)

There is a major crime spree going on in my town...some say its a bunch of heroin addicts but I beleive it to be gang related organized crime using heroin addicts as their pawns. The robbers are looking for quick easy scores...cash jewelry etc.

I just know they would love my coins.

I need to hide them and quick, but I know (thanks to you guys) not to put them in the attic or basement. So my question is can you give me some good ideas on where to hide them.

I have read posts on here before about people hiding them right in the middle of their living rooms in a faux coffee table or something like that..

Anyway they are in shoe box's and lock box's in my closet.....if they come in my house my entire collection will be gone and quick....that would destroy me

Hmmm.... For a quick fix, why not empty a 12 can drink box, or a cereal box, hide them in that, and stick them in the pantry?

 

Under a floorboard?

 

One of the best ways to "not get robbed" is to tell no one (except trusted individuals who you know can keep their mouths shut) that you collect coins. Another way is to buy a big dog. Thieves hate dogs.......

I think your best defense is a good offense. Go get a safe-deposit box and put the valuable coins there. You should be able to get a box for 80-120 a year that is large enough. Then find some of your least valuable coins and put them in the shoe box you have, put it in a closet. That's your fake-out for them. Only have things that are not worth much. Get rid of your coin magazines, etc.

Lastly, get renter's or owners' insurance. Take stock of what you have. If you have known thieves (groups looking for places to rob) in your area, you need to take action. If people already know you collect coins, put out the word that you've been struggling and had to sell your nice coins.

A better idea would be UNDER the refridgerator. Get a good thin box that is durable, put it under the fridge. Chances are, they might look through the fridge and freezer for hidden stuff (known too well that drug dealers tend to freeze their assets), but won't actually move the darn thing.

If you own your home make a power outlet safe. Here's what you need, superglue, a cutting device, outlet plate, a box of some sort, large enough to fit your stash in, but smaller than the outlet plate itself. Cut a hole in the wall just the size of the box you're using, not the outlet plate (be precise). Once you've done that, superglue the box to the outlet plate. Fill up your stash and slide 'er in. Voila. If you find it doesn't fit well, you can always wrap the box in cellephane until you have a snug fit.

If this isn't an option, if you have a dresser, just stash your coins under the dresser. Most have a hollow space underneath.

 

Install five extra deadbolts on your doors. And while you're at, do not go out into public for about 6 months while the authorities wrangle them up. You might have to send your family up in the mountains, I hear the Catskills or the Sierra Nevadas are nice this time of year. It's been warm this year, so no snow. Hope this helps.

 

Or if you've got the time and money, there's a whole host of fake out stuff you could do. Fake fuse boxes, fake water heater, Fake thermostat, etc. Most of the work in these things are just buying the normal items, taking out all of the internal stuff, and that's it.

 

No, 6 deadbolts, and only lock every other one. That way if they try picking they're always locking 3 in the process.
