I'd say the Columbian expo half qualifies... any others ? In particular regular issue, not commems. I can't think of any, closest one being shield nickel. The Columbian sure seems like the obverse is the bust of Columbus to me.
please try to be more courteous, there are some who appreciate the modern coinage even if you don't. As for your original question, there is serious disagreement on which side of the Oregon Trail commem is the obverse, so depending on which side of that debate you fall on, it may fit you definition. Also there are numerous other commem halves with the date on the rev. Also the one and three dollar gold coins have their dates on the reverse. I can't think of any other regular issued coins right now, though.
Most of the time it is said that the side with the date is the "front" of the coin----but I would disagree....look at State Quarters....and alot of Comm's. Speedy
Looking through tons of world coins, it seems the majority put the dates on the obverse, maybe about 3/4... I've seen a few countries where depending on the deonmination they change where they put it. It's really the portrait that defines one side as the obverse... but on some coins that's hard to determine what side that would be, especially on some of the classic US commems. I believe the only US regualr issued coins that have the date on the reverse are the statehood quarters. The only other US coins with the date on the reverse are commemoratives... though on some of them is arguable which side i considered the obverse and which is the reverse, when they have something that can be considered a portrait on both sides.
You must have missed the one and three dollar gold coins, that I'd mentioned. Both were issued for regular circulation and both have their dates on the reverse.
All of the US 2 cent, 3 cent & half dimes had the denomination on the reverse as well. Except of course for the half dimes that did not have any denomination on them at all.
I'm confused Doug, don't most US coins have their denominations on the reverse? And how does that impact the OP's question about dates being on the reverse? I must be missing something...I just can't figure out what it is. :headbang: Help please...
Well now, that apparently makes two of us CT. Of course you were doing just fine until I confused you. I was thinking denomination and he was asking date :rolling:
