This morning i remembered myself that a long time ago i had a paypal account.
So i wanted to know if it still existed, or if there was money on it.

Both questions came in positive, there was $5 on it :p (its not linked to a credit card, so i only could use that $5)

I browse ebay regulary, just to watch the coins and laugh sometimes :p

    I found this one: http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220940680583&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:BE:1123

    a
s i never bought something from ebay before i tought to myself, its not much money, i can pay it with paypal so lets go crazy and bid on it.
    So i bid $1,99.

    I WON :p

it is going to be my first proof coin, so for me it was worth it

But what do you guys think, was i stupid to bid on this and buy it?

I think it was a mistake to spend $4.49 on a penny. I mean, yes, it's $5 you never knew you had, but for that same $5, you could have bought a cool UV flashlight from China... or batteries... or other random crap you could actually use. ;)

Personally, I don't bid on anything that is located outside the U.S.

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

Let's remember, Koen is in Belgium. He is using Euros, so in USD he spent $ 5.88 USD. for the coin and shipping. IMO not a good buy since it is an impaired proof. But since it is a first buy, I believe he did do good as a learning experience. (and it was $5 he didn't know he had :) )

According to the listing, which is in USD, he spent $4.49 USD, or 3.43 EUR.

IMHO it could have been an OK buy if there wasn't scratches above "LIBERTY" on that cent (plus, who knows how the reverse looks).

It was indeed $4,49 its allready converted to dollars. To bad the shipping costs more than the coin :p . Anyway, i like it. And it was just to test out ebay, so i dont mind. Hope it is payday soon, then i can put money on my paypall again and look for some better coins.

Oops, I made a mistake! You're right, so it is even less of a bad deal! :)

Good; that means that you aren't competing with others, like the OP, who are themselves located outside the U.S. :)

Nah, its fun and it is a neat looking coin. Consider buying a proof set 1960-1964 you can get them on e-bay for around $20 and they have a silver dime, quarter and half-dollar as well as the cent and nickel.

I think you did just fine!

If you like the coin, who am I to question you spending $5 on anything (or nothing at all!).

    Enjoy your coin.

What's important here is that you like the coin. Don't let other people dictate how you collect. Collect for you. It's good to seek advice, but for only a few dollars even if some people say you overspent with shipping, so what. You're probably going to enjoy the coin. And the fact that it money you didn't know you had its kind of like finding it on the street, which is a total score in my book.
