I'm not very knowledgeable about the situation, but i think JFK's up to at least '76 are hard to find as well.

I've never coin roll hunted before but I think selling coins that you *may* find if you're lucky in coin rolls is counter-productive.

Why not use other money to buy rolls, search them, then sell back the coins you don't want?

i roll hunt kennedys pretty regularly and you very commonly find 71 in circulation. obviously if you have some uncirculated kennedys i'd hold on to them, but anything else you can spend.

i collected my kennedy collection out of circulation in short order. the only tough finds are from 82, 83, and anything after 2001 because they weren't released in circulation. but i still found a bunch of those after going through not a ton of rolls.

The only time you'll find these in circulation, is when someone cleans out their stash and is desperate for the cash.

Seriously though, IF you should be lucky enough to find any Kennedys in circulation, be on the look out for the 64, as that was the last year of the 90% silver, business strike, coins. They're not exceptionally valuable, but to some collectors, they would go a little more than melt on the because they're a Kennedy, and the 64.

so as a collectable value what will a mid 70 JFK go for.. its nothing for silver scrap so its collectable or bust...

The Mint ended silver in business strikes for circulation in 1971, so mid 70s Kennedys are copper-nickel. Depending on condition when you find them, they're really worth only face.

My experience in roll searching has not totally agreed with that. It seemed like I found more 1971 halves than anything else. Any half dollar dated after 1970 is clad and thus normally only worth face. There were some mint set issued 1976 silver halves, but they were never intended for circulation and thus are very rarely found circulating.

1970 or earlier Kennedys are keepers.
1971 and up I only keep if they're gem BU examples that would slab 65 or better.

With Ikes, any 40% silver, any NIFC, T1 '76's, FEV's, and T2 '72's are keepers. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google them.

nope that helps me very much.. all my coins are in good condition. nothing BU in my pile of scrap just G4 to maybe VG

i have the 40% silver ones saved to the side w/ those years... how about the bi centennials?? just a cool keep sake

They made over a billion bicentennial Kennedys... the highest mintage in the whole series. Junkers. I'd keep anything that's extremely worn as well, they can fetch good prices if you can find the right buyer.

    IE: I've a standing offer of $150 for this coin, it's a '64 Kennedy.

For what it's worth, the 1970 D Kennedy is 40% silver and is the key date for Kens. There were 40% Bi-centennials minted as well. They also minted 90% Kennedy Proofs in San Francisco starting in the 1990's I think.

so basically every JFK i have i have is just spendable from 71-up

    i have

    10 1971
12 1972 (should i look for a missing ingraver initials??)
    10 1973
    13 1974
    8 1976
    4 1977
    7 1979
    1 1980
    1 1982 (hard to find???)
3 1983 (hard to find???) should i keep these, what is there value? they are around VG-8

so you are all agreeing that those are just face value??? i just want to be sure if i have some kind of history here? to atleast save, b/c ik they are not silver

as for my IKES i STILL DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TELL a 1971 FEV or a Type 1 1976. should i save those for a collector??

    i have 7 1971
    6 1972
    17 1974
    9 1976
1 1977 (this i think is cool b/c it is from the last 2 years they went back to eagle reverse correct??)

i just really wanna save them if they have some value.. if not... then i guess i will coin roll hunt

    We're talking business strikes.

Type 1 1976 ikes have a wider font size. Sort of a "bold" / fat look to the back side lettering. Compare the "United States of America" words on the back to each other. If they look normal, then it's '76. If any has a bolder font, then it's 75. I would hold onto any type 1 76s. They carry a higher premium than '76, though in the grand scheme of things, it's really not that much.

I keep all my Ikes. I don't care if they're not worth anything, I love them too much. Besides, you're seeing them less and less. They might be worth a bit in days to come.

If you can find 1975 JFKs and Ikes, you live in counterfeit-ville. As I know things, they did not mint any, or maybe you have one of a kind pattern?
