I am submitting coins tommorrow to PCGS. The only one that I have a question on is my 1942/1 Mercury Dime. Do I have to pay extra for the overstrike designation? How should I go about preparing to send this in. Will they take Cash? TYVM ~Jason
Yes, you'll pay extra for variety attribution. Do not send cash. Personal check, cashiers check, USPS money order or debit card. Best is credit card. Credit cards offer more protection than any other form of payment.
Thank you Rick. So, I guess I'll just put a note in there. I do not see anything on their brouchers they sent about how much extra to pay.
It's my understanding that you don't pay extra for the attribution of major varieties like the 42/41.
If you down load the submission form, all of the info is on it. It also calculates the cost automatically as you enter your information.
Most varieties you have to pay extra for. Some major ones you may not have to. The only way to know for sure would be to give them a call and ask customer service. If you have to pay extra go for variety attribution not Mint Error. They want an extra $50 for the mint error classification, and besides the overdate is a variety not a mint error. But if you list it in the mint error class they will be happy to take your $50.
Most excited/anxious about the 1925-S Jubilee. I would guess it is VF pushing XF. It is one of the only coins that I know for a fact was my grandfathers and not my great-uncles. I thought about keeping it raw, but the way I handle it, I believe a slab would be more appropriate. Kind of like a museum casing.
