hey guys, a few questions, i just picked up a Pretty BIG collection of silver http://www.cointalk.com/t199566-3/ seen there questions are a few pricing questions as well; What should i do with the Eisenhower's that are not between 1971-1976 only those 5 years are 40% silver. are the others just Face Value, are they a need to hang on to? What should i do with the JFK dollars that are POST 1970 as i have stashed away the '64's ad 65-70. are the 1971+ years of JFK coins just Face Value, should they be saved?? What should i do with all of my wheat pennies? will they ever be worth anything? besides the ones of key dates? What should i do with all the 1959-1982 Pennies..(Copper) and are the 83+ years just able to put in the coin star jar. as they are not worth anything or hang on to them? i have rolls of UN-circulated state quarters.. will these be worth anything in my life time i am 20?? how about the 900 circulated state quarters i have kept to the side? are these just going to be worth face value? thanks for all your help.. hope you enjoyed looking at my collection
for the Ikes with no silver just spend same with the Kennedys. on the Ikes, they only made 40% ones 71-74 and 76 but they made clad for those years also so check the edge to see if clad. the pre '82 pennys I would keep. someday after they change the pennies you should be able to cash out for copper value. the wheats i would sell and put the money into silver. better upside. the state quarters that are not proofs (silver) you might as well turn in for bills or spend as is. there are a couple of states/mintmarks that go for a slight premium by BU roll so check but it's not much.
You might also want to check the Kennedy's for those missing the designer's initials on the reverse. I believe that '72 & '82 were a couple of the years, but I'm not sure if there are others. Chris
I usually sell Ikes at $2 a piece, so if you sell them yourself, you could make some money off them. If you are trying to sell to a dealer, you'll probably just get face or a few cents over. I also have a large collection of IKEs for my own personal collection. I just love the big dollar coins! I think one day these may end up being a sleeper series of sorts. Most people tend to ignore / dismiss them now, but one day, I believe they'll get a bit more respect. We shall see... State quarters should be put back into circulation. I personally don't see them gaining any premium. Only way I see making money off those is if you put them into an album and then sale that album at a premium. Though on a side note, putting an album together and giving it as a gift to a family member / friend is a good way of getting people interested in numismatics. Copper cents I'm on the fence about. I keep them myself, but may get to a point where I ask myself why. lol If they ever decide to legally allow us to melt them, then it'd be worth it. But will that day ever come? As for wheats, I sell rolls for $3 a piece, which makes each one worth 6 cents. Most are common. I do make it interesting and throw in some good stuff. Half dollars, just spend them. I think the 87's carry a small premium as they were only released in mint sets that year. 2002 and on up carry a small premium as well since they don't normally circulate. I've only been into numismatics for over 2 years, so take my opinion anyway you want... lol
all have been very helpful would it be wise to take my ikes and kennedys and mabye go coin roll hunting with that money just for the fun of it.. if i do.. should i buy dime, halves or dollar rolls as i know the silver quarter is a hard thing to find now i just didnt want the ikes to sit around if they are worth nothing. i will look at the 87 JFK but other than that. 1971 and up is face vaule. i think coin roll hunting is ok right? or just get bills for it. what about the bicentennial Eisenhower coins?? should they be saved i have 5 of those. every other one is between 71-76 how would i also see if the IKES are clad? if i check the sides of the IKES and it has that copper color half way around it then it is not worth anything.. i just want to know so i do not spend the wrong coins
