Is this a souvenir relating to the American Numismatic Association? Perhaps it is a love token of the initials A.A.N. I don’t know myself but I found it interesting & added it to my collection. I bought it at the Naugatuck Connecticut coin show this last Saturday. Opinions & silly wild * guesses are welcome.
Well, I think it is to commemorate the Alliance of North Africans. Very cool love token btw. I don't think the ANA would 'destroy' a coin just to commemorate theirselves. I think they would mint their own.
Yep. However, today we often see modern coins being elongated & over-struck. I've seen lots of FUN convention elongated coins. In 120 years someone will probably curse our generation for destroying those beautiful obsolete MS red Lincoln cents and state quarters just to make a souvenir.
I think so too. I bought it because it reads ANA. Often the center initial is the last name. On this token, all the capital letters are the same size.
