Just wondering, because I saw some rolls for sale on E-Bay.

This sounds like a cool idea. So you just walk in and tell them to trade some coins for your bills?

Avoid ebay, you will pay a premium and the coins are most likely searched. I"m sure there a plenty of banks that are willing to supply you with rolls and/or boxes. Also you will be getting all your coins at face-value (no extra money spent). Do a search for more information here about coin roll hunting, there is plenty of good information already here on the subject. Check the beginning of this thread for starters.

    Good luck.

    Hunting on Sunday????

    Just curious.

Any of you guys try and hunt on Sundays? Most banks of course are closed. Well I think TCF around me is still open on Sundays for a short time frame, but I only use them for dumping.

I was thinking of trying to hit up a bunch of big box stores like Wal-Mart, Target, and Super markets just to see if they have any loose halves hanging around, also thinking about hitting up a Flea Market tomorrow just to buy some silver.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Chester

Well, with TD bank being open from 11-4 on Sundays, I search pretty much every Sunday.

    Sundays

Yes, Sundays can be decent. I am sure you can find a few banks around you that have Sunday hours. I have a couple near me but the flea markets are great for a quick Sunday look. Last weekend there was a guy with a booth selling 1964 Kennedy rolls. He sold the coins for $7 each as he bought them for $3.50 each and was happy to double his money.

Chester - I did search most Sunday's initially, but I've given up on it since Football season. I need a day to rest and commit to the family without running around. I haven't seen a noticable difference in my totals since I stopped anyway. So, I don't really plan to do it much going forward.

Picked up the partial box on Saturday which had a CWR among the $460. The CWR looked old and on it was written in light pencil "1968" with a 19 below it and "1973" with a 1 below it. Turns out someone just reused the wrapper. Boo!

First BWR roll had a '44 Walker and found 2 40%ers in the rest of the rolls.

    @ Moonshine
I'll take a Walker anyday :), nice find.

I only stopped by the flea market today. Offered a guy $10 for a Blue Ike. I know melt is around $12, but everyone is looking for a bargain at these things. It was still in the package, so still uncirculated, he wanted $19 for it, I said, see you later.

I did pick up 1 Junk Peace Dollar for $30, which is the same price the coin dealer I usually go to charges. I just had to get some silver for the day. Now it's out to the banks again this week for roll hunting!

    3 boxes of dimes, 4 silvers, including a '45.

Box of quarters; skink... did get a proof idaho, though.

Nickels; '44-D, Greatly impaired '64 Proof, and a '76 proof.

    Proofy day, I guess.

Melt's actually around $10.50 now, and remember, 40% always trades at a discount. At the last coin show I attended, the best offer I saw was 21x face for 90%, and just 8x face for 40%. If they were paying the same proportion of "melt value", they would've been offering 9.33x for 40%.

Yeah, a multimeter won't do much -- you need to measure really tiny levels of resistance, and contact resistance (largely determined by dirt on the surfaces) far outweighs the resistance of the metal itself. You've got to either couple inductively, which is pretty complicated (and is what metal detectors do), or dig into the metal with a sharp probe. Of course, you can only do that to the end coins, and you trash them if you do.

It's been a long, long time since I studied electronics (it was well before the Web), but I know Forrest M. Mims had some really good intro books that were sold through Radio Shack, and I think they're still available there; that's how I got started, and I highly recommend them. When you get more advanced, The Art of Electronics is a one-book university.

Dumped a bunch of clad this weekend at TD, helped get the bags ready and work the Penny to keep it moving quickly which they appreciated. There was like $2.00 in nickles that were stuck in there from the previous customer and at the end there was a coin still rolling around in the machine. It was an IKE which they pulled out and gave to my daughter. Very cool tellers there.
