I can't tell you too much about the medal other than the fact that Germantown is a neighborhood of Philadelphia (see link below). Does the medal have the name of the designer on it? Is there anything stamped on the edge that might indicate if it was struck by a private mint?

You probably have the real deal, as far as it being a commemorative medal/medallion from the 225th anniversary of the founding of Germantown, Pennsylvania. Look at this site - it gives the official program for Founder's Day there http://www.archive.org/details/officialprogramm00germ and here is a link that gives a citation for a postcard from then http://pacscl.exlibrisgroup.com:48992/F/?func=direct&doc_number=000205696. I don't know the value, it obviously would be dependent on the people that support the historical society that might like to have it, sometimes, if you put it up on eBay, someone might purchase it to give to the local historical society (This one would be Philadelphia, I imagine). That happened to me once when I sold an oddball item. You might try putting it up for, say 25 or 30 dollars on eBay and mention early Philadelphia. Someone might be wanting it.
