I know this is a common year, but with the rim ding I am trying learn how much this affects the grade of the coin. Could you please post your opinions on the grade of the coin in it's current condition and what the grade would be without the dings. Thanks in advance.
62-63 because of the marks on her face. With the rim damage, a 60 if it would even grade at all. Just IMO. There is a big difference between the 2 pics, so the coin might look better or worse in hand.
I assume this is a photo, so I have to say that I don't see any luster at all. If it has been over-dipped or improperly cleaned, then it is only worth melt value. Chris
My lighting set up seems to be getting this look. Even some of the slabbed coins with great luster seem to come out this way. It does how some nice luster in hand. One of these days, I will splurge on decent lighting.
The luster seems pretty flat. Check to see if there is a cartwheel effect on the shine, if there is it can still be considered AU to a low MS. If not then, I think it will be considered cleaned. At least thats what I think.
Thanks for the opinions. I am still learning to spot overly dipped coins. I got the coin at melt price when it was around $28, so I am not too worried if it turns out cleaned.
Certainly looks overdipped from your photos. I'd call it AU-Details... Don't think it'd pass at a TPG service Not a submission-worthy coin, IMHO... Unless you want it to come back body-bagged or "Genuine". -Brian
I hate to say this but, that mark on her face, it would probably get a DAMAGED label from a TPG. Looks overdipped to me. AU at best, worth melt.
I had not planned on getting it graded by a TPG. Just wanted to get opinions to see how my eye is doing when it comes to looking at coins.
As to your question about the rim ding - I believe that they, yes plural, are bad enough that even if there were nothing else wrong with the coin that it (the rim dings) would stop the coin from being graded at all.
The coin would be a " no grade" for two reasons-- significant rim damage, and being cleaned. I would say AU details- damaged.
