so, I was going through some change my fiance gets back from a certain gas station. sounds bizare but he often comes home with the craziest varities, one being a 1970 s ddo ( and no im not Edited ~ Read forum rules on wo*rds you) anyway, i reach my hand into his pocket to empty the contents , and low and behold i found a 1981 lincoln cent. proof. no mint mark. beautiful mint luster. high grade, toned,mirror-like but frosted. how can this be? anyone aware of Any examples? there is no question it is a proof. so whats the deal with this little buggar?
haha, yeah im aware. unfortunately, my camera isnt working, ill have to make do with the camera on my evo. as soon as its finished charging ill have pics up. my point though, what is an average guess to what it could be worth? say its graded a ms 63 bu, is this the first found?
Hate to break it to you, but if it grades MS 63, you don't have anything valuable as it would designate a circulations strike. You want it to grade PF 63. I have no clue on the value though. We need pics to be able to help you out. I don't think anyone here is going to tell you values unless they have good pictures to make their best judgements.
oh Edited ~ Rules . i didnt realize i wrote ms 63, im only on my first cup of coffee. wow. pictures will be up within 30-45 minutes. just to clairify though, incase i am wrong, ( i am a woman... so i am often wrong, ha. ) what is the biggest indicator for a proof, aside from the frosted high points, mirror back and well defined deeper cut lincoln? how should the rims look? what about the letters? i am in utter disbelief, i know my stuff, but am ALWAYS willing to get tips, also im having issues deciding whether my 1968 no s roosevelt dime is indeed from the sf mint... anyone have a side shot photo of that specific variety?
Pics using my camera on my phone sorry for the dely, couldnt quite get the shine to show because of poor lighting, cant see which folder i just uploaded lets hope its the right one, if its not i'll have to go on my computer to retrieve the files...
:devil:Man, all that reading and trying to figure out what she said that had to be edited on two posts, all for a lousy business strike, well circulated Lincoln.
If people don't read the rules they miss among others #1 from Doug. Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t34131/
This is what a proof should look like. The background is mirror-like with the image matte or frosted:
