I personally love the ATB series. The designs are all great so far. This will be the first silver series set I will collect annually. Picked up 2010,2011 today and 2012 is on its way. What are thoughts or opinions on this series in general? and what do you think about the giant silver ones?
Same here, I can't wait to have the complete series. I like the 2012 designs the best so far and the Hawaii volcanoes the best of the 2012's. I have a feeling this set is going to fetch a nice premium when it is all said and done.
I also like the series. A few designs lend themselves to beautiful reverses on the pucks as well. I'm on the fence as to how valuable either size will be, but I think both have potential and plan to pick up all the little ones. The pucks get plenty of bad press now, compared to 2 years ago, which allows them to be affordable for newbs like me. I haven't seen any other large silver pieces from the U.S. mint like that
I love them, too. I've been setting up Littleton books of PDSS sets for each of the six grandchildren. Socking away three extra of each of the proof and uncirculated sets, keeping those in the mint packaging.
I have sold off most of mine. I did keep a few that I feel really portray the "B" in ATB, but that's a personal thing. I kept the one from Arkansas mostly as an investment piece; being first issue and all.
The silver proofs are the best (imo). It always cracks me up when someone gets an ATB quarter in their change and asks..."Is this Canadian?"
I personally love the series, probably because I've always been a nature nut. I always collect a year behind so I'll eventually buy the 2011 soon. Must say though, really like Vicksburg and the upcoming Peurto Rico coin with the awesome looking tree frog.
I own the state quarters in au in a tube. I've never been big into mint sets but after seeing this thread you've made me itch to own all the state and atb mint proof sets. Good going lol. They sure are beautiful.
Oh, you owe it to yourself to get a puck in your favorite design. Either the "-p" (if you have the investor mindset) or a bullion one in PL if you want purty. Thank me later!
I like the designs in general and feel the 2012s are the best as a group thus far. My 2 favorites for this year are El Yunque and Hawaii Volcanoes. I have the silver proof quarters in 69-grade for 2010, 2011 and now 2012. I think the silver proof quarters are the best visually and prefer them over the pucks. It would have been great if they could have transferred the crispness of the mirrored fields and frosted devices over to the pucks. Those would have been some coins to behold. I do own some pucks in both bullion and vapor-blasted. I buy them if I find them for $200.00 or less because I feel I should be able to get my money back at a $40.00/ounce silver level, but who knows. To me, the bullion look somewhat like aluminum foil and the vapor-blasted are a little too matte. That's why i prefer the beauty of the silver proof quarters. I do like the series and do plan to acquire at least a set of silver proofs each year.
My comment might well be better in the bullion site, because I'm stacking these babys as a small and convienent trade unit. With silver at 33.90 the content is 30.65, pretty close to a 20$. But don't break the case to use them as 5$ substitute because the "s" also comes as a clad. In this case pre-65 GW quarters are preferred. 2010 RED mint case is Silver 2011 Blue mint case is Silver 2012 Blue mint case is Silver. There are 2 downsides in stacking these, they follow spot price and may never be a numi. But again they could be better than digital bucks in the bank. If desperate these will be the first to trade, but all pm coins are basically spot in the very worst of times. And yes the ATBs are beautiful in the quarter size- much more than the state series.
That has to be my favorite coin of the series to date. Interesting design and just the right combination of mirror and frost.
