Received in the mail the last 3 Kennedy half dollars I need to finish my business strike set. First series I can say I've completed! Also got most of the rest of the Jeffersons I nee; just need the keys and the silvers to finish that one. Then guess will move on to Franklin halves and Buffalo nickels, lol.
Congratulations! Just curious... what were the three missing pieces? Were 1970's among them? I have a Jefferson set somewhere that was complete up to 1985, before I went "on hiatus". I was very happy when I got that 1950-D to finish the Whitman album.
Nice job on the Kennedy Halves. As for the Buffalo Nickel and Franklin Halves, I would recommend on purchasing (saving up for) the 1913-D and 1913-S Type II first then the 1926-S and then the 1921-S last for the keys. This was the first set I completed and was quite happy that I bought these keys early on in my collection. These keys will make you much happier later when you dont need to get them and all your focus is on the easier and less expensive dates. The Franklin Half set shouldn't be that difficult to finish unless you're going for all MS grades.
Actually purchased the "key" (as far as the series can be said to have one) 1970-D about a month ago... the last 3 I needed were 2003 P&D, and 2005-D. The silver ones I mostly bought... though did find 2 of them from roll searching, the rest I found over a period of several years until just recently over the last year searching rolls of halves. Then just starting buying what I needed from coin stores and eBay to find the stubborn ones. On the Jeffersons I think I've found just about all there is left to find from circulation, lol... though I did actually find one of the silver ones in the change drawer where I work. Plan to get the silver ones next before capping it off with the 50-D and the 38 and 39 mintmarked ones, and the 1951 S that seems to be semi-elusive for some reason.
Congrats on the completion. I have a few of them in my album, but I keep putting off working on them in favor of other series, maybe one day.
Way to go.... I agree with the post above about Buff Nickels....BUT remember to look for upgrades. Like my 1926-S VF nickel I found marked F....you too can find good deals like that....the Buff Nickel is one of the hardest coins to grade. Speedy
