My girlfriend had this coin given to her by her grandma 19 years ago. She has never seen it until today. Its been packaged and put away since way before she was given it. We did some research and the only significant thing i can tell you is that this coin has 7 TF instead of 8 TF. Any information would be great. Is this the 27,000 one??

First let me start by saying HI! next i believe your referring to the 7/8 Tail feather variety on the 1878 Morgan silver Dollar which this is not. Next your Dollar is very Worn which would not command a $27,000 price, also there are 3.2 Million of that type minted so it's not incredibly rare either... In my opinion i would say the best you have there is about a $30.00 Coin. If anyone disagree's with what i said they will chime in as there are many more people on here more knowledgeable than me.

This happens to be one of those Morgans that is "grade driven", and unfortunately, yours is a lower grade, worth melt value or possibly a little more. Would probably sell on eBay in the $25 to $35 range. And yes, only seven tail feathers as stated above.

Welcome to the forum Jeremiah!! The 1884-S is an interesting coin in that even the smallest bit of wear can mean the difference of thousands of dollars. The drop off in price is huge. They are relatively common in the lower grades.

I find that many of the "Gold and Coin" buyers that haunt the malls and large newspaper ads often use the 1884-S Morgan to lure people in, and it isn't a bad ploy as they have price guides which show that the lower grades are much lower in value. I have one that is PCGS graded that is just a step away from the big bucks :( and that really hurt ) :)
sorry we couldn't be bearers of better news, but since there are so many Chinese counterfeits around, you do have a honest appearing part of American History.

    This a regular, common, 1884-S worth $26.30.
