Hey guys it's felix, I found this penny and it looks like it has an S over an S , please take a look and comment about it hope it's a keeper, lol tnx guys.
I have 3 1970S Pennies 2 are exactly alike on the Date and LIBERTY, THE DATE NUMBERS ARE LEVEL AND LIBERTY IT'S WEAK , THE OTHER HAS THE NUMBER 7 LOWER THAN 19 0 AND LIBERTY IT'S WELL STRUCK, I'LL SEND A PIC OF EACH, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS.
Look at the 7. It has a diagonal (within the 7) that you can see between the top level portion and the diagonal portion. That characteristic is supposedly only on the large date. Also, on the large date, you can have weak Liberty or a strong Liberty, but on the small date you can only have a weak Liberty. Check the references, and see if the weak Liberty corresponds to the same weak Liberty as the Small date. I doubt that it will because of the 7 characteristic seen here.
Here is another Pic Posible that I posted the wrong one, This is the one that is different from my others.
Felix, I'd love to see you find a small date, but I'm seeing the same problems with this new pic. One of the things about the small date 1970 is that the spacing between the 7 and the upper line at the top of the 9 and the 0 is very small. And the line goes slightly above the 1, so if you have the top of the 7 even with the top of the 1 (drawing a line at the top of each of those two numbers) and a different line connecting the top of the 9 and the 0, which is what I see, then it is a Large date. I see the 7 dipping lower than the tops of the 9 and the 0.
Those small dates are the toughest for most to figure out. Just get on ebay sometime and you'll find about 1/3 of the listings for small dates are actually large dates. Your two pictures are both large dates, I'm afraid.
Hi guys, thank you all for your help i have 2 more to post it's real hard to distinguish one from the other ''Dates'' BUT I'LL FIND ONE, kaosleeroy108 yes i did clean them or ruin them didn't know and i learn my lesson do not clean your coins right? tnx guys look at this one and let me know please.
Another large date. Look here; http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html and http://www.cointalk.com/t93080/
Very interesting...I hadn't studied modern Lincoln cents. However, the diagnostics at lincolncentresource.com clearly shows that the OP's coin is the Large Date variety. The curve of the "9" really stands out.
Yep...your "9" curls inward over 90°. The "9" on the OP's cent extends nearly straight down...with just a little curl at the end.
1970S Small Date .... Hi all,My name is Felix I found this 1970s penny , can any one tell if it's a small date cause it is hard for me to distiguish the diff between large or small dates,

Thanks.
To tell if it is a small date you can mainly either check the cherry pickers guide or the red book might have pictures so you can tell the difference I have a small date certified by pcgs and I use that one as a marker to tell the difference .. there are tips in the coin world. I think it was june. 2010 they detail key coins and major details .. you can prolly find a copy at coin world.com ebooks ya know...
BUncirculated Thank You for the reply, Well at least I think that there is some doubling on it, or is it ?
