It came to me this evening to ask this question of all the Paper money collectors here that are involved in Small Size US Banknotes.
So tell us what Series you enjoy the most, why you collect it and what your goal is for doing so. Do you have certain standards in which you collect by? Are you actively seeking the stars for the Series as well as varities? I hope this will become an interesting Thread as we see the changes over time of our US Fed Reserve Notes,WWII Emerg Issues, Silver Certs and Legal Tender Notes

For me it is the Series 1928, 28A, 28B, 1934 34A, 34B 34C and 34D..I will have to scan some notes and will post here later on. :D
The notes seem to be a deeper color with different inks used and finer engravings, larger seals and large solid stars. The 1928 and 28A Series in the $5, $10 and $20 have the Numerals and these I really appreciate..images to come later..so there is my reason..

By all means post images if you so desire.

Many of you guys know that I am building Sets of Series 1934C $5 thru $100 including Stars...and I have posted many before..but here is a Set that has taken just as long as the 34Cs.. the Series 1934A with stars for the $5, $10 and $20.... the $20 notes also includes the all elusive Back plate 204 note that is very tough to find...enjoy and post your notes as well. :D

My faves are the red seals, I myself got a $100 Series 1966-A at a rural N. California bank about 18 months ago. The twos I turn up every few months and I recently got a 1953 Fiver. But the $100 is a rare find now from circulation.

Thanks for the new thread Rick. :thumb:

    Here's my active list:

    • Small-size FRN District Currency set --> St. Louis district (Symbols: 8 and H). Denominations: $1 - $50 of Series 1928-present and star notes.

I'm not searching for all blocks, one of each Fr# will do, but I'd add an extra note if a fancy SN came along in a spot already filled. I'm not particularly after mules and varieties, but welcome them when I find one for particular Series. DGS and LGS will be represented. Grades? There is no limit, the finest I can stretch my budget as notes become available.

    • A denomination set of small size gold certificates: $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.
I haven't acquired any notes yet. I've been studying them off/on for about a year. Whatever I can afford in PMG or PCGS grades at about VF is my goal, EF if lucky.

    • NA Emergency notes
I quite like the contrasting blue and yellow inks on these notes. I've ordered all the articles scanned from back issues of SPMC's Paper Money magazine so that I can read up on them. (Thanks to lettow for pointing those materials out for me to read.) I'm not sure where I will go with these notes yet, but I'd like to be the care taker of a few more of them.

    • Large Size Legal Tenders.

I have a very special pair of $2 Series 1917 LTs. I am actively looking (and have been bidding, but loosing) on my next acquisition in this area, a $1 Series 1917 note (Fr 36-39). Just one will do. Must be graded, 53 to 63 is my estimated range, lower if it's a star and bright EPQ/PPQ paper. I can dream about adding the large size LT $5, $10 and so on... one of each denomination, but their prices, even in lower grades, start to get pretty scarey, real fast.

Exercising restraint in the va$tne$$ of U.S. Paper Money is difficult to do, even if one's budget forces you to into fewer areas of collecting. As always I appreciate the help and suggestions you have given through this forum, Rick. I have learned to search for and seek premium quality notes, or at the very least the best I can afford so that I can enjoy my collection to the utmost. :smile

Most people here already know my fondness for Series 1976 $2 FRN First Day of Issue with postmarked stamps and Series 1934 Light Green Seals.

Krispy mentioned the North Africa War Emergency Notes. The entire Series 1935 A $1 notes of experimental and emergency notes produced really beautiful unique notes!

Well, it's fledgling, but here's what I've got so far...
A certified note I bought and two raw notes passed down from generous family members:

On which topic, I posted these on another forum not long ago, but I don't know if you're over there. The various special printings are certainly interesting, but sometimes it's the surrounding perfectly normal printings that are tougher to find:

    I'm a big fan of series 1988A/1990 FRN's.
This series features my all time favorite signature combination on any modern series of American currency.
Plus, I find it a very interesting series, due to it being the first series to feature web press notes. This series is also interesting, because it gets into some really high block letters, of which, only series 1995 can rival.

I just love the "flowing" nature of the Villalpando/Brady sigs. This is probably why I pluck just about every '88A $1 I find, out of circulation. Something about the aesthetics of those sigs, just really appeals to me.

For older small size notes, I'm a big silver certificate fan. I find the bold blue seals to be very striking.
