id grade the morgan at vg-8 and the mercury at around f-12 but i would send them in to get them slabbed for authenticity reasons. even a trained professional can mistake a coin as counterfeit these days. cody
They may not even grade or come back AG-3. G-4 has to have full rims and legends (wording around the edges). The merc. is closest; the rim is only wearing on the reverse. The morgan however not only is the rim going south at the top of the obverse and the left on the reverse but the unum on the obverse and the united on states is wearing away. If you do have them graded make sure to ask for Genuine if they won't give a regular numerical grade. That way you know they aren't counterfeit and won't have issues selling them later on if you would ever want to.
TPG Grades: G4 VG8 Is it just me, or does the wear pattern on the Merc look a bit odd? I would have not expected the coin to show so much more wear on the reverse than obverse -- but admittedly, low grade mercury dimes are about as far away from what I collect as can be.
I'd give the Morgan a G6 (a bump for rarity, actually a G4) and the Merc, a G8 maybe a VG10 for rarity bump.
Morgan: G4 Merc: VG8 Both need to be authenticated by a TPG, since both are frequently counterfeited.
I really hope that rarity bumps don't happen as often as you are insinuating. If that is the case, something is seriously wrong with the grading services.
