The list if a little funny to read....could you space it out some so I know what dates are UNC and what dates are PF and such......I think I know what ones but I don't want to give a wrong price.

    Ok....
Someone with the gray sheet will be able to give you better prices but this is what I see most of the dealers selling them for.
I haven't been collecting Mint and Proof sets for about 6 months now and have kindof lost my price mind for them :D :D so I could be wayyyy off....it used to be that I would find what a set was going for and then put that price in my mind and try to remember it so when I found one for sale I wouldn't overspend.
The ones I left un-priced was because I'm not too famaliar with them....

$30 each for all of them but the 2000= $20 and the 1999= $300 and the 2001= $120----so a total for these would be about $780
I think my dealer had a 1999-S Proof set for alittle over $300 on Monday....

$300 I would say for these IF the 1956 in in the mint holder--like this one....

and the coins haven't been fooled with.

is that a "You can resell at this price" or is this a fair offer I should make on them?

what about the other coins like the prestige sets and that jackie robinson set?

Thanks for your feedback it really is appreciated.

    Well as I said...
IIRC this is a fair offer....I bet that that is even more than a dealer would offer.

If I were you I would find someone (maybe someone on here could help) with a Gray Sheet....find out what the BID is for all of these coins....that is what a dealer would offer...then if you want take that offer and add 10% on to it...that would be more than fair.

I haven't had time to look up them.....

I have an older copy of the Gray Sheet around here...about a month old...I'll try to find it.

Thanks Speedy, I really do appreciate the feedback, let me ask you this and this goes out to everyone really

I got my Gray Sheet out....it from FEB 10. 2006.....they prices shouldn't be too bad off for these....
I'll tell you at the end what I would offer myself..

    UNC Sets--
$370.25---IF the 1956 isn't in the Gov. Packing I would cut it back about $60 to around $300 like I posted before.

    Silver sets (Proof)
    $814.0

They didn't make PRESTIGE sets for these years....

    $90.00

What are the coins in the sets??? does it have the gold or not???

And the other coins....I either can't find a good price for them or I can't decided what they are...
Are these Proof sets or what?

If I was buying these....FIRST of all I would want to see them in person....maybe he could mail them too you or drive them to you and let you look them over and then make an offer...that is the way many of the dealers do it...
If he won't send them to you then I would be alittle hesitant about it.....at least untill I knew what coins were there...gold or not...etc...and if they were in the MINT packing.

If you have a dealer friend in town go there and tell him you are thinking about buying a collection and would like to know if you could ues his Gray Sheet for a few min...run it down to the copy store and make a copy....

I've never made a sight-un-seen offer on a collection before so I can't say what I would offer totaly...but it would be over $1,200.

    bandito -

Keep in mind, if selling these sets to a dealer (assuming you could find one that wanted them) he would offer 15% - 20% less than the Greysheet bid price.

So, if you plan to buy these to sell - that's what you better do. If you want them for your collection to keep - then pay what you feel is fair.

Thanks, guys again for the feedback, the guy that has these coins is an older gentleman and is a dear friend of mine, he sol dme most of his junk silver to me at 3x face (259.00 face) and he knew darn well silver was at 11.00 an oz at the time and told me I was dumb for not selling it when it spiked to 14.00
I am sure I can get a real good deal on this stuff, but I also want to do the old man right as he has all kinds of other stuff I'd like to take off of him. Namely a 1966 baby blue mustang fast back that he has completely restored and added too!
The jackie rob set is the 5.00 gold piece in a wooden box with the card he bought it off some lady for 100.00.
I am thinking of offering 1000.00 cash for the list but really am strapped! There goes my 401K!

Also with these proof sets, when does one know when to bust them out and send off to get graded? Would that be wise? or woul dit be best to just hold them intact?

ah so you think the deals risky do you?

The total is up to you.....if the guy is a dear friend...you risk losing that friendship with too low of offer...that is the risky part IMO.
If I was making the offer I would either.....go and ask him how much he would be willing to take....just tell him the truth that you really don't know how much to offer, and how much would he want....then go from there....
OR I would look over the list and mark off sets and coins that I knew I didn't want.....then only buy the sets I needed...

If $1k seems fair to you and to him you got a great deal.......BUT that is a once in a life time deal....most people aren't going to let you get that type of coin for less then list.
With the Jackie Rob set being the one with the gold, the whole collection would be worth more than $1,500 IMHO.

Please don't take this wrong...I'm not trying to say Don't buy it...and I'm not saying Do buy it...but buying coins always is risky IMHO and with good friends it is twice as risky.

He is just pointing out that spending your savings (as opposed to disposable income) on a collection of common modern mint products may not be the wisest course of action you could take.

Gotcha, I thank all of you's for your HO's I am going to start with the Grand and see what the initial response is and go from there. I don't plan on any type of re-sale I plan to just file away in the safe for a rainy day, or for the kids college fund, But I am left with a final question. When does some one bust the proofs open and send them off to be graded in hopes of the illustrous grade of 70?

Personally on modern proofs I wouldn't so much about the grade but on the cameo contrast; if you think it has good enough contrast to make cameo, deep cameo, or ultra cameo, that's when I'd break them out to have them graded. Modern proofs rarely have much premium from their grade unless they can beat 67... and it's hard to tell if it will go that high until you get really good at grading, but anybody can see cameo appearance pretty easily.

what makes a cameo? or how do you distinguish it? just by the mirror like appearence or the frostyness?
or neither? am I far off?

I don't like to throw cold water on the whole idea, but if the goal is to create a rainy day fund or a fund to help pay for college in the future, it is difficult to recommend this course of action. If the purpose is to jump start a collection of the series you are buying because you have a continuing interest in them, it sounds like a good deal. If you just want to resell the coins for a quick profit, maybe you should shop them around at a few dealers for your friend in return for an agreed-upon percentage of the proceeds as compensation for your time and effort. It is hard to figure out if you are collecting, investing, or flipping for profit.
