1983 brass strike error not related to the other post today>>

    Think I may have found one of these little buggers late last night. Opinions??? and is there any way to be sure???

    the only way to tell is by the color compared to another zinc cent. you can send it in to anacs and they can attribute it i think

    Well its definitely brass colored for sure no doubt in my mind. Its the one on the left by the way???

    Just weighs 2.5 grams? definitely not copper? so that leaves zinc and im imagining things again???

    i know what caz was saying now lol he means brass plated caz, not made of brass lol they will weigh the 2.5g but they will look brass.

    I think my best case is the first picture of the reverse look at the difference in color....

    i think it may be, but i cant tell for sure, can you post better pics of the coin by itself, use the macro setting on your camera

    much better! i think you may have a true brass plated error, wait for someone else to chime in. and dont hold coins that way. i know its just a penny but your hands contain corrosive oils! only hold them from the edge. id reccomend getting a piece of felt from walmart, there only 50 cents and setting the coins on that when you photograph them. theres a thread on proper handling of coins somewhere on here.

    grade is hard to tell from pics but id give it atleast au55 and these are fairly hard to find.

    So thats why that one I found was shiny and yellow, oh well, I just threw it back.
