Weird ebay listing for 1833 half cent

We've all seen eBay listings that were honest and those that were not. This one strikes me as just plain odd. The seller does the least bit to be honest about the coin being polished, but everything else about the description is really grimy and contradictory.

For example "...I am by no means an expert. One person may grade a coin as an AU while another one grade it as an AU+...". (lol!)

And... "The coin is polished... The coin is in raw uncertified condition and is a very nice original coin." (original?)

And... "I do not attach a grade to the coin as grading is very subjective..." (Title and description grade it as AU)

Just seems really weird, especially for a seller that's doing so much business on the site. I can't recall any that were this bipolar.

He got a generic template for all his items, sometimes it indeed sounds a bit weird and there is really no reason to read it if you want item description, just check photos and don't bid if you don't like what you see. I bought quite a few things from him because 1. he got high quality photos that do accurately describe the coin and 2. he ships worldwide for an extremely low fee. Just one problem, 99.9% of his coins are sold for massive premium, not easy to get what you want for reasonable price.

any seller that does not describe his coins accurately should be avoided. this seller is in the habit of selling problem coins. i hope you did not bid on that half cent. a close look shows hairlines from a harsh cleaning all over the place.

You don't even need to look closely... that coin looks like it's been cleaned with a brillo pad.

I see. Would have thought the little extra time to clean up the description is worth it for avoiding confusion. I guess some sellers just rush through the listing process as fast as possible.

And was a VF coin before it was ruined.

Still it has a value, maybe $10 to $15 at best.

Definitely, but it seems that this is not the case. This seller sells everything he offers, usually for unreasonably high prices. I guess when you get the feedback he got, more than 1000 items for sale at all times, and this amount of bidders, caring about description is just a waste of time.

Such a fickle description of the coin. I gotta grab me a Brillo pad. Love the results

that would be too nice of a sentiment. I believe sand-blasted with driveway gravel, and then buffed with shards of glass, would be a more appropriate description. LOL.
