I just received the results of my CAC submission in my in-box. I must say that I am extremely pleased with their customer service and how quickly my coins went through their submission process. I sent a variety of coins as I have never submitted to them before. I wanted to see how close my opinion was to theirs. I expected the Half dime, Isabella, 1878 7TF and 1914-D $2.5 not to sticker. I was hoping for my Proof 3 cent but it does have an ugly little black spot on it. I was hoping the toning would maybe make up for it but no luck. I was a little surprised at the Franklin as I do not consider it FBL even if it is marked as such. I have heard that CAC is extremely picky on the FBL designation; they even have a reference set of FBL on their website for comparison. I might have to change my idea of what I consider a FBL. I might be too strict? I had mixed feelings about the Capped bust and the Stone Mtn. I am not surprised that they did not sticker. I thought the 1913 Nickel would sticker so I will reevaluate that coin when it comes back. I might have missed something. Over all I am happy and I plan on using this as a learning experience. I do not have pictures of all the coins but I will post what I have in a few minutes.
From what I hear, a 64% pass rate is not bad.

CAC or not I think that 3 cent silver piece is really nice looking. Pretty good passing ratio though.

  10. I think the 3C has some odd colors to it. I am no expert on toning and won't pretend to be, but it just doesn't look "right" to me.

I think the 1837 50C has very nice eye appeal even with the black toning spot. I think it's more in the VF35 range.

Again, these are just my opinions and really shouldn't count as fact. ;)

Fine set of results - a better percentage than i have done. And as you say, always a good learning experience. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Log, I agree that the half might be a little overgraded but I was thinking more like 40 instead of 45. The toning on the 3C proof looks 100% natural to me though I might be a little bias :)

I'm a bit surprised by the 3CS not passing, but I also know too well that pictures of proofs can mask problems. Did you get a reason?

Overall, it does not surprise me at all you are pleased with the experience -- I must say that I've yet to hear a bad thing about CAC from someone who has actually used them. Given how picky and demanding that coin collectors tend to be, that says a lot to me, and my own experience was similar to your own.

FWIW, here were the results of my first submission, now a few years old:

Now if I can only find the time and motivation to complete another submission....

Anyway, thanks for sharing your results! Take care...Mike

I didn't get a reason on the 3CS but I didn't ask either. I am back in Afghanistan (I mailed these out when i was home on leave) and was planning on re-evaluating the coin when I got back to the states. I have a couple of other coins I am going to send in and might resubmit the 3CS.

You keep very detailed records, I like that. I might copy your spread sheet if you don't mind. I agree about CAC, I was very impressed with their service. Even my emails were answered in just a few minutes. I think it was a smart move on their part to stop giving memberships for a while, I'm just glad I got mine in :)

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the entire spreadsheet.

Be forewarned, there's a lot more detail than I've shared. ;)

Thank you for your service to our country. Take care....Mike

Thanks for sharing. They are a sharp operation. CAC submitters can also join their version of Coin-net, called "Coinplex". It runs $100 a month and gives you something of an inside track on buying/selling.

last I hear they were still developing this. Is it already running? I wouldn't join while I am overseas but it sounds nice. Is it only for CAC stickered coins though?

It is mainly for dealers or collectors/investors that spend a lot of time buying/selling. It has all major service coins. CAC buys are listed and updated by Albanese's team.
