Just came across a Lincoln Penny. It is a 1971 "S" but has no copper coating on it. It almost looks like one of the steel pennies from WWII, but shows no wear. It is a dull silver in color, and when placed on a gram scale wieghs more than a copper Wheat Back penny does. I do not have a picture at this time, but would like to know what or where this may have come from. I was just curious as to what I have. Thanks for any advise anyone can give. Ted in Kentucky

It is probably not an error, some people just coat pennies with different metals to make them look cool and to trick people into thinking they are an error.
The weight on the 1971S is 3.2g a new penny was 2.6g a 1940 series steel penny was 2.8g Does this help
I'm 99% sure its plated....a cent has you said weighs at abotu 2.5-2.6g.....a dime places would weigh...2.25g....this is about 1g heavier so I think its plated. Speedy
