hey guys, ill most likely be heading to my coin show next week. the plan was to buy some junksilver/bullion. that plan was made early this week when silver was @ 29. now that its gone up to 32 i cant decide to buy numismatic coins or bullion. if it goes up to 35 ill probably buy numismatic but now thats in the middle im not sure to buy numismatic coins or bullion or a little bit of both. thanks in advance for your input
How can you go wrong with junk silver halves? Real purchasing power with history. I'd be interested in hearing how you fare. Not the dollar amount, but how everything ends up for you. Sometimes it appears that the barter system is becomming more prevelent in a slowing economy.
To all that say halves, why? The dealer that I have been dealing with always has halves in the junk tray. I keep passing on them in favor of any mogans/peace dollars he might have. 2 halves don't equal the silver quantity of a dollar piece. My dealer sells at melt price for face value. To the OP, I can't give you any advice because I just don't have the experience to go after numismatic coins. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.
Right now with the price being right in the middle I'd suggest numismatic. Look at ebay... Junk silver is selling for nearly $5 more than its worth per ounce. Junk Morgans/Peace are going for $30 a piece, even more than $5 higher.
Exactly the reason I like buying junk, because when your looking to sell if you have a larger pool of buyers you have a larger chance of finding one paying the premium in cost your looking to make with the sale imo.
Why are you buying? That will answer your question. Did you wish to buy junk silver as a silver investment? THen I would still buy bullion unless the price is too high for you. Bullion and numismatic items are not the same, one is for investment the other is a hobby. Now, if you wanted to buy junk silver FOR your hobby, that is still a good plan. You get enjoyment out of owning them, yet buy silver at a cheap, (market) value. I did that starting out, picking through junk trays to form a collection.
When you say you're going to a coin show to buy "junk silver", do you mean worn silver coins (aka "numismatic")? Why would price changes affect your decision to buy junk silver vs bullion? Whatever...the only advice I'm qualified to give is...if you're buying circulated coins, "buy weight; not face". :thumb:
