Bought two 1970 mint sets today, and both of these look like small date cents to me, but I wanted a second opinion. Thanks.

Not according to the Red Book. The Small Date has a 'High 7' and the Large Date has a 'Low 7'. Yours appear to be 'Low 7s'.

    Both are large dates.

If you draw an imaginary line between the 1 and the 0 in the date, top and bottom (but you will have to show the slightest amount of space above the 1, not exactly even with it's top), the small date will have the 7 almost fully contained in that section (only the smallest areas of the edges of the 7 may be hanging lower). On the large date, the 7 will be slightly lower than the top of the 0 at it's top, and the bottom portion of the 7 will hang lower than the "line". See http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/1970S1cSmAndLgDtCompare.htm for the differences.

Thanks everyone for the input. I looked in the cherry pickers guide, and it was the weak Liberty that made me suspect it was Small date. Glad I asked.

That high and low bit can be arbitrary when the photo is shot at different angles. But both are large dates by my determination that the end of the loop of the "9" is pointing at the top of the "S" rather than the "7"
