Hi guys, i was wondering if anyone could help me identify a coin. Came across these while at a flea market and being a fan of silver i had to pick them up. The gentleman who<br>sold them to me did not know much about them. The closest information i have been able to find is they MAY pertain to Meiji Japanese Trade? I have included a picture attachment and a link to one that appears to be it, the face is so worn i can not tell though. If anyone can help me out with this i would be greatly appreciative. http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/wcm/CoinView.aspx?sc=96491
No sir, I can not say that i have. Was trying to see if i could find information on the coin online fist. I will need to find a coin dealer in my area and see about, having them take a look at it.
From the info i gathered, it is Japanese. Mint is somewhere around 1875-1900? I will have to go monday to see, I hope it is authentic, seemed to match the facings and silver matched some of my other silver coins.
that is japan, meiji year 10 - 1877 - dont know much about coins from that era other than being able to read kanji but I think there are lots of fakes out there
ty for the hint, went looking for it but turns out the 1877 year 10 and this one have different symbols. going to keep looking though, until monday.
eeeps sorry youre right, the first one i saw i think said Sen and not Yen, looked them up again. You were saying there were lots of counterfit ones though? =S
I managed to find a small post about a fake one i think, though metal looks different. http://coinbucket.blogspot.com/2007/04/tobacco-smile-and-one-good-trade-dollar.html
on some of those - but no expert on which ones - is it magnetic? I am sure those who know these coins will chime in
Sad to say i do not have a magnet, i will have to find one, but thats a sure way to tell. if it picks up then fake.
True...well used a refrigerator magnet after looking a bit...Dont know why it wasnt on the fridge, but thats besides the points. It attached. =(
Your Chinese fantasy piece has an approximation of the obverse of a trade dollar, and the reverse of a one yen. Sorry about that.
