From what i'm hearing the 2011 W $50 Gold Eagle Burnished is SOLD OUT from the US mint. the US mint site is not showing sold out but is not allowing orders. If the 2011 W $50 Gold Eagle Burnished is sold out then there is a chance of it being a really low mintage. the final stats are not in yet but according to the link below the mintage might be low. http://www.numismaticnews.net/article/mint-stats-commems-fall-short-in-2011 here are previous AGE Stats http://goldeagleguide.com/mintages/ any chance these will command a higher premium than other $50 gold eagles ? I know the 2008 W burnished 1/4 OZ Gold Eagles command a high premium.
I am predicting that the final audited mintage of the 2011W $50 AGE will be 8,884, which is exactly one coin greater than the final audited mintage of the 2008W $10 AGE. I think interest in US Mint products is decreasing. These were available for about one year with many touting that it was a sleeper, and they still did not sell well. I think it was a good buy for those who got in at the lowest price especially to flip but would not pay the moon money being asked on EBay right now. TC
here are some high "BUY IT NOW" prices on EBAY. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-W-50-AMERICAN-GOLD-EAGLE-UNCIRCULATED-1oz-COIN-25TH-ANNIVERSARY-MS70-MS70-/220924550964?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3370211f34#ht_2090wt_1165 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-W-PCGS-MS70-50-Gold-Eagle-/320832511165?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab31b9cbd#ht_500wt_1413 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-W-50-BURNISHED-Gold-Eagle-PCGS-MS70-FIRST-STRIKE-Pop-82-SOLD-OUT-READ-/270892289936?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f12704f90#ht_2719wt_1398 so we will have to see how it plays out. the 2011 $50 W gold eagle UNC. BURNISHED could be the lowest mintage gold eagle of all denominations .
I don't know much about playing the low mintage game, but if you would buy 1 of these on the basis of lowest mintage, isn't there a very good chance there will be another coin with even lower mintage in a year or 2 or 3 or 4? I mean sure, if you can get it close to metal value, but does it really make sense to pay a hefty premium for it?
I already own one. paid bullion price a few months back when gold fell. (just a little over spot) . it may or may not be a key coin in the future. only time will tell. I know other forums are totally hyped up about it.
2011 W $50 Gold Eagle Burnished Minage I got a final mintage for the 2011 W $50 Gold burnished at 8,891 from IPM.
