I got a box of CWR from the bank a couple of days ago while I was on lunch, and since I've gotten to my luxury time the past couple of nights, I've been unwrapping and looking through roll after roll of wheat pennies! Some of the rolls had 21 century coins mixed with wheats, one had two IH pennies, two others had single IHs, I got a few steelies(one in AU? condition, with what looks like a greasy die error on the date), one 1909 VDB, some teens, 20s, but mostly were 40s-50s wheats. I'm going to go back through them all and look for key dates, semi key dates, and errors, but assuming that I don't find anything else too special, what would the lot be worth, split up or sold as a whole(minues the special ones that i mentioned)?
Thats pretty awesome that you got all of those wheaties. Besides the special ones and the scarcer dates I don't think they are worth more than 2 or 3 cents a piece. I really don't know the best way to go about selling the more common date ones would be, but you could try putting them into rolls of 50 and selling them on ebay. Or you could just save them all. That would be something for grand children to see years from now, a jar full of old pennies.
wow... that is impressive! my best is only 14! you could probably sell all the wheats as rolls on ebay for about $4 if you say they are searched, and $5-$6 if you don't look through them.
I would rather keep them since there not worth a lot. Also, congrats! My best in a box was like 6 wheaties and also an 1882 indian
Oh yeah, and the steel penny is just a grease filled die as you said and is worth maybe 3 dollars. I have the same one
I think that I will keep them...I'm going to search through them all of the good stuff though. Thanks for all of the replies
